How do I find my phone's IMEI number?
Open your phone's dialer and type *#06#. Your IMEI appears on screen right away. It's a 15-digit number, and phones with two SIM slots usually show two.
The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is your phone's serial number on mobile networks. It belongs to the hardware, not your SIM, so it stays the same if you swap SIMs, reset the phone or change carriers.
The first 8 digits identify the make and model. The next 6 are that unit's own serial number. The last digit is a check digit calculated from the other 14, so a single mistyped digit makes the number invalid.
What to do
- Dial *#06# to see it instantly
- Write it down somewhere safe, away from the phone
- You'll need it to unlock the phone, report it stolen or make an insurance claim. Carriers in many countries can block a stolen phone by its IMEI
