How do I take a screenshot on Windows and Mac?
On Windows 11, press Windows key + Shift + S, then drag around the part of the screen you want. Windows key + Print Screen saves the whole screen. On a Mac, press Shift + Command + 3 for the whole screen or Shift + Command + 4 to pick an area.
On Windows, Windows key + Shift + S opens the Snipping Tool's capture bar. The picture is copied so you can paste it, and a notification lets you edit or save it. Windows key + Print Screen saves the full screen straight to Pictures, then the Screenshots folder. On many PCs, Print Screen alone also opens the capture bar.
On a Mac, screenshots save to your desktop by default. Shift + Command + 5 opens a small toolbar with every option, including screen recording. Before sharing a screenshot, check it for personal details like addresses, account numbers or other people's messages.
- Windows: press Windows key + Shift + S and drag over the area you want
- Windows: find saved screenshots in Pictures, Screenshots
- Mac: press Shift + Command + 4 and drag, or Shift + Command + 3 for the whole screen
- Mac: look for the picture on your desktop
