What happens if I tap Trust This Computer on my iPhone?
Tapping Trust lets that computer sync with your iPhone, back it up and access your photos, videos, contacts and other content when you connect. You also have to enter your passcode to confirm. If it isn't a computer you own and use, tap Don't Trust.
Your iPhone asks the first time you connect it to a new computer or other device with a cable. Choose Don't Trust and the computer can't get to your content, though your phone can still charge. The alert then appears every time you connect to that computer. With iOS 16 and later, it also appears when you back up to a computer.
A trusted computer stays trusted until you reset that list or erase your iPhone. That matters with public charging. A charging kiosk has no reason to ask for trust, and a rigged port that tries to reach your data is called juice jacking. If a public charger or a shared computer you won't use again triggers the alert, tap Don't Trust.
- Tap Trust only on computers you own and use
- To forget every trusted computer, go to Settings, General, Transfer or Reset iPhone, Reset, then Reset Location & Privacy
- That also returns your location and privacy settings to their defaults, so apps may ask for permissions again
