Where do my downloads go on my computer?
Unless you changed it, downloads go to your Downloads folder. On Windows 11, open File Explorer and click Downloads on the left. On a Mac, open Finder and click Downloads in the sidebar. Your browser also keeps a list of recent downloads.
Every account on a computer has its own Downloads folder. On Windows it lives inside your user folder, at C:\Users\ followed by your name, then Downloads. On a Mac it sits in your home folder. Browsers save there by default unless you or a setting chose somewhere else.
The quickest trick is to ask the browser. In Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome on Windows, press Ctrl + J to open the downloads list, then choose to show the file in its folder. In Safari, click the downloads arrow near the top right.
- Windows: press Windows key + E to open File Explorer, then choose Downloads
- Mac: open Finder and pick Downloads in the sidebar, or use the Go menu
- In your browser, open the downloads list to see where a file was saved
- Move files you want to keep into Documents or Pictures so Downloads doesn't fill up
